Chapter 14 - Emma’s Mistake

My sister Emma had known more than she admitted.
She had discovered letters between Claire and Victoria months before the pool.
Instead of telling me, she tried to pay Victoria to stay away.
Two million dollars.
Victoria refused.
I was furious.
“You thought this was your problem to solve?”
“I thought you had suffered enough.”
“That doesn’t give you the right to decide what I know.”
Emma cried.
“I know.”
I removed her temporarily as Lily’s backup guardian.
She accepted it.
No argument.
No guilt trip.
Then she started therapy.
A year later, she asked:
“Do you trust me?”
“More.”
“Enough?”
“Almost.”
Lily solved it herself.
She handed Emma a paper written in purple crayon.
