Chapter 12 - Lily Learns to Swim Again

For six months, Lily would not enter a pool.
I never forced her.
Then one Saturday, she asked:
“Can we go?”
“To the pool?”
She nodded.
We chose a small indoor one.
No city skyline.
No party.
No Victoria.
Just me, Lily and a swim instructor named Megan.
Lily stood on the first step for ten minutes.
Then the second.
Then she started crying.
I moved toward her.
She raised her hand.
“No, Daddy.”
I stopped.
She breathed.
Then stepped deeper.
By the end of the lesson, she floated on her back.
Five seconds.
Then ten.
When she stood, she smiled.
“I didn’t sink.”
