Chapter 8 - THE HEALING IN TRIBECA

Three months passed.
The cold winter gave way to a crisp, radiant spring across Lower Manhattan, painting the cobblestone streets of Tribeca in warm morning sunshine and blooming cherry blossoms.
The forty-eight-million-dollar penthouse had been completely revitalized.
The hidden surveillance cameras had been removed, the cold museum precision replaced by soft woolen rugs, colorful wooden toys, and framed photographs of Liana, Matteo, and Nico laughing together.
In the sunlit terrace garden overlooking the Hudson River, Nico was sitting on a soft play mat, happily stacking colorful wooden blocks, giggling joyfully as he knocked the tower down.
"Look at that throw, Nico!" Liana laughed, kneeling beside him on the grass, clapping her hands.
Nico babbled happily, crawling into her lap, burying his face in her linen sundress, wrapping his small arms around her neck with absolute, unconditional love.
Footsteps clicked softly against the terrace flagstones.
Matteo walked onto the terrace wearing a relaxed white linen shirt and dark trousers, holding two steaming cups of fresh dark roast coffee.
He set the cups on the cedar table, pulled up a chair beside Liana, and looked down at his son with an expression of pure, unshakeable peace.
"How are the contractor blueprints for the new maternal center in Queens looking, Liana?" Matteo asked softly.
Liana looked up from her child, her hazel eyes glowing with radiant purpose. "The city approved the construction permits yesterday, Matteo. We break ground on the sixty-bed specialized maternity clinic next month."
Matteo smiled—a genuine, warm expression that made his handsome face look ten years younger.

"You built an empire of protection for mothers in this city, Liana," Matteo whispered, reaching out to gently take her hand into his.
"We built it together, Matteo," Liana smiled softly, leaning her head against his shoulder. "For our son."
