Chapter 7 - THE BOARDROOM PURGE

At 9:00 AM sharp, the grand executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Varric Global Holdings on Wall Street was packed to maximum capacity.
Fourteen senior syndicate trustees, corporate attorneys, and institutional foundation directors sat around the forty-foot mahogany conference table.
At the head of the table sat Sofia Varric, still wearing her crumpled silk gown from the night before, guarded by two armed federal marshals who allowed her to sit under strict custody protocol. Her hands were shackled beneath the table, her face hollowed out with exhaustion and humiliated rage.
The double doors of the boardroom swung wide open.
Matteo Varric walked into the room, wearing an impeccably tailored navy-blue three-piece suit, his posture straight, unyielding, and sovereign.
Beside him walked Liana Graves, wearing an exquisite dark emerald silk dress, her dark hair swept up in an elegant chignon, her face radiant with dignity, strength, and unbroken motherhood. In her arms, nine-month-old Nico was dressed in a pristine white baby suit, looking curiously at the executives around the table.
The fourteen directors stood up in synchronized, stunned reverence.
Matteo walked to the head of the table, placing a gold-embossed legal portfolio before the corporate secretary.
"Gentlemen," Matteo’s deep baritone rolled across the silent hall. "As of eight-fifteen this morning, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York has executed an emergency statutory rectification of the Varric Family Lineage Charter."
Matteo turned to the secretary, pointing to the documents.
"Sofia Varric has been permanently stripped of all trustee titles, voting equity, and executive privileges following her federal indictment for grand kidnapping and fiduciary conspiracy," Matteo stated cleanly.
He placed his hand gently over Liana’s.
"The four-hundred-million-dollar Varric Testamentary Trust is hereby placed under the sole, unilateral management authority of Liana Graves, biological mother and sovereign co-trustee of the heir, Nico Lucas Varric."
The senior managing director of the board, an older man named David Miller, looked from the baby to Liana, stepping forward to bow his head with deep, profound respect.
"We welcome your leadership, Madam Chairwoman," Miller said softly.

Liana signed her name on the executive parchment with a steady, graceful stroke of a gold fountain pen: Liana Graves-Varric.
Sofia let out a broken, agonizing sob from the corner of the room as federal marshals pulled her to her feet, leading her out through the side doors toward a lifetime behind concrete walls and iron bars.
