Before marriage, Leah found one final sealed document Sofia left.
Not financial.
A letter for “when Lena chooses someone safe.”
I almost refused.
Then read.
Lena,
If you are reading this, you let someone close enough to risk being disappointed.

Do not confuse safety with never being hurt. Safe people can hurt your feelings. They just do not need your fear to keep you.
I stopped.
Daniel waited across the room.
No demand to read.
I continued.
I made mistakes trying to protect you.
I hid things you had a right to know.
I told myself fear made me wise.
Sometimes it only made me controlling in a softer voice.

If Vincent is in your life, make him earn the word brother.

Finally:
If Carlo’s money ever reaches you, use it to create choices. That was the only reason I agreed to let the trust exist.

I folded the letter.
Daniel asked:
“Okay?”
“Yes.”

“No.”
He nodded.
