Chapter 22 - THE PHONE

Police eventually returned the old phone Ruth? No Ruth here. Sofia’s old phone.
The emergency phone I used in the bathroom remained mine.
I kept it in a drawer for years.
Battery removed.
The number card still inside.
Vincent Moretti.
Only if you have nowhere else.
At thirty-five, I took it out.
Maya asked what I wanted to do.
“Throw it away.”
“Why?”
“Because I have places now.”
That answer felt right.
I kept the handwritten card.
Not the phone.
Electronic recycling.
No dramatic smashing.
No fire.
Object became waste.
The card went into Sofia’s journal box.
May you like
History.
Not emergency.
