Chapter 8 — The Fall of Vanessa Cole

THE FAKE HEIR SCANDAL
Chapter 8 — The Fall of Vanessa Cole
The world loved a perfect woman.
Until it discovered the perfection was a performance.
For weeks, Vanessa Cole had been the woman everyone admired.
The elegant fiancée.
The future Mrs. Valenti.
The mother of the next generation.
Magazine covers had called her graceful. Business leaders had called her brilliant. Society pages had called her the woman who finally brought warmth into Adrian Valenti’s cold world.
They had built her into a dream.
And dreams were dangerous.
Because when they broke…
Everyone wanted to see the pieces.
The press conference began at nine in the morning.
By eight-thirty, the streets outside Valenti Tower were filled with reporters.
Cameras.
Microphones.
Questions.
Everyone wanted the same thing.
A scandal.
A confession.
A downfall.
I stood in a private room on the thirty-second floor, watching the crowd below.
My hands were shaking.
Not because I was afraid of the cameras.
Because I knew what came after.
The moment Adrian stepped outside, my life would no longer belong only to me.
Everyone would know my name.
Everyone would know Lily’s name.
Everyone would have an opinion.
I had spent my entire life trying to avoid attention.
And now I was standing in the center of it.
“You can still leave.”
I turned.
Adrian stood behind me.
Dark suit.
Calm expression.
The same man the world feared.
But I noticed the small things.
The tired eyes.
The tension in his shoulders.
The fact that he looked at me first before looking at the cameras.
“You’re giving me a way out?”
“Yes.”
I studied him.
“Why?”
“Because once I say what I’m going to say…”
He paused.
“There is no going back.”
I looked through the glass.
At the reporters.
At the world waiting outside.
“There wasn’t a way back after they threatened my daughter.”
Something changed in Adrian’s expression.
Respect.
Not pity.
Never pity.
“You’re stronger than you think.”
I smiled slightly.
“No.”
I looked at him.
“I’m just a mother.”
For a moment, he said nothing.
Then he nodded.
“Sometimes that is stronger.”
At exactly nine o’clock, Adrian Valenti walked onto the stage.
The room exploded.
Questions came from every direction.
“Mr. Valenti, is the pregnancy fake?”
“Did Isabella Laurent deceive you?”
“Is Elena Carter involved?”
“Are you replacing your fiancée with your employee?”
Adrian stood there silently.
Waiting.
The noise continued.
Then he lifted one hand.
And the room went quiet.
A billionaire did not need to demand silence.
People gave it to him.
“I called this press conference because there have been many stories published in the last forty-eight hours.”
He looked directly into the cameras.
“Most of them are incomplete.”
A reporter shouted:
“Are they false?”
Adrian answered immediately.
“Yes.”
The room erupted again.
He continued.
“Isabella Laurent was not pregnant.”
The words hit like an explosion.
Every camera flashed.
Every reporter started speaking at once.
Adrian did not stop.
“Evidence has been recovered proving that the pregnancy announcement was a planned deception.”
A screen behind him turned on.
Documents appeared.
Photos.
Financial records.
The contract.
The fake medical reports.
The payment trail.
The truth.
For the first time, the world saw what we had seen.
Not rumors.
Not accusations.
Evidence.
But Vanessa was not finished.
She appeared on the screen before anyone expected.
A live video connection.
Her face was pale.
Her eyes red.
The perfect image was gone.
“Adrian.”
Her voice trembled.
“I never wanted this.”
The reporters immediately turned toward her.
A different kind of hunger appeared.
They smelled another story.
Adrian looked at the screen.
“Then explain.”
Vanessa took a breath.
“I made a mistake.”
“A mistake?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Yes.”
She looked into the cameras.
“I was afraid.”
The room became quiet.
“I knew Adrian wanted a family. I knew everyone expected me to give him an heir. I thought if I could give him what he wanted…”
She swallowed.
“He would never leave me.”
A few reporters exchanged looks.
For a second, some people almost felt sympathy.
Almost.
Then Adrian spoke.
“Who helped you?”
Vanessa froze.
The question changed everything.
She looked away.
“Adrian…”
“Who helped you?”
Silence.
The entire world waited.
Because everyone understood.
A lie this large did not happen alone.
Vanessa closed her eyes.
And whispered:
“Victor.”
The name shocked everyone.
Even though we already knew.
Hearing it publicly was different.
A secret became a weapon the moment the world heard it.
Reporters shouted.
Cameras flashed.
Adrian’s expression remained controlled.
But I saw his hand tighten.
His uncle.
The man who raised him.
The man who claimed he was saving the family.
Vanessa continued.
“He approached me months ago.”
Her voice broke.
“He told me Adrian would never choose me if I couldn’t give him something permanent.”
She wiped her tears.
“He promised that once I became the mother of his heir, nobody could remove me from the Valenti family.”
“And you believed him?”
Adrian asked.
Vanessa looked down.
“Yes.”
The answer was quiet.
But honest.
For the first time.
“I thought I was creating a future.”
She looked at him.
“I didn’t realize I was helping destroy yours.”
After the broadcast ended, the world changed.
Vanessa Cole was no longer the woman who would become Mrs. Valenti.
She was the woman who tried to steal a future through deception.
Her contracts disappeared.
Her invitations disappeared.
The same people who had praised her now pretended they had never supported her.
That was how society worked.
They loved winners.
They abandoned anyone who fell.
But Adrian was not celebrating.
I found him alone in his office that evening.
The city lights reflected against the windows.
“You should be happy.”
He looked at me.
“Why?”
“Because the truth came out.”
He was silent.
Then:
“Not all of it.”
I frowned.
“What do you mean?”
He opened a folder.
Inside was a single document.
A DNA test request.
My heart stopped.
“What is that?”
Adrian looked at the paper.
“Something Victor was trying to hide.”
I felt uneasy.
“What?”
He turned the document toward me.
The name on it made my blood run cold.
Not Isabella.
Not Victor.
Someone else.
Someone connected to the Valenti family.
Someone who could change everything.
I looked at Adrian.
“What does this mean?”
He stared at the report.
“I don’t know yet.”
A pause.
“But I know one thing.”
“What?”
“The fake heir was never the real secret.”
Thunder rolled outside.
And somewhere in the city, someone realized Vanessa had fallen.
But they had not lost.
Because the person who started the war was still waiting.
May you like
And they had one final weapon left.
