Chapter 12 - The Unmasking

Julian walked slowly toward the center of the circle, pulling Elena gently along with him until they stood just four feet away from the trembling housekeeper and the paralyzed head of security.

"For the past three years," Julian addressed the ballroom, his voice ringing with cold, judicial clarity, "I have allowed my domestic properties to be managed by individuals who convinced themselves that my wealth was a shield for their own corruption. They believed that because I am a demanding businessman, I would turn a blind eye to theft, extortion, and human cruelty, so long as the floors were polished and the lawns were matted."

Julian reached into the breast pocket of his tuxedo, pulling out the frayed, soot-stained wool beanie he had worn during his undercover experiment. He held it up under the chandelier light for Marcus and Mrs. Gable to see.

Marcus’s eyes bulged. He stared at the beanie, then looked at Julian’s face—really looked at the sharp jawline, the piercing dark eyes, the height—and the catastrophic realization hit him like a physical blow to the chest.

"You," Marcus whispered, his voice cracking with absolute dread. "You were... at the gate."

"I asked you for a sip of water and a crust of bread, Marcus," Julian said softly, his tone dripping with lethal irony. "And you shoved me into a limestone post. You told me that human garbage didn't belong in this zip code while you were actively stealing twelve-hundred-dollar bottles of my private reserve Bordeaux to drink in your security lounge."

A wave of shocked murmurs rippled through the assembled billionaires and board members. Several executives shook their heads in disgust.

Julian turned his gaze to Mrs. Gable, who was practically hyperventilating, her hands shaking so violently her clipboard clattered against her knees.

"And you, Mrs. Gable," Julian continued relentlessly. "You skimmed four hundred thousand dollars off domestic supply invoices using dummy accounts. You docked the wages of a woman who fed a starving stranger because you claimed I don't tolerate waste. You used my name—my reputation—as a weapon to terrorize domestic workers who couldn't afford to defend themselves."

"Mr. Sterling, please!" Mrs. Gable sobbed, falling to her knees on the polished marble floor, tears streaming down her heavily powdered cheeks. "I was following budget guidelines! It was a mistake! I can repay the money—please don't ruin me!"

"You ruined yourself the moment you forgot what it means to be human," Julian said coldly, stepping back to stand beside Elena.

He gestured toward the two men in conservative suits standing near Arthur Pendelton. "Agents, execute the warrants."

The two men stepped forward, pulling gold badges from their coat pockets and producing heavy steel handcuffs.

"Marcus Trent, Sarah Gable," the lead FBI agent announced clearly over the murmurs of the crowd, "you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, grand larceny, embezzlement, and interstate extortion. You have the right to remain silent."

As the handcuffs clicked securely around Marcus’s wrists and Mrs. Gable was lifted sobbing from the floor, Marcus turned his head, glaring at Elena with a final, desperate look of venomous hatred.

"You set us up!" Marcus spat as the agents dragged him toward the service doors. "You think you're safe now, Rostova?! You're just another piece of property to him! He'll throw you in the trash the second he's bored!"

Julian moved before anyone could react. He closed the distance between himself and Marcus in two long strides, grabbing the guard by the collar of his uniform and pulling him inches from his face.

"Speak her name again," Julian hissed, his eyes blazing with a terrifying, protective fury that made the entire ballroom catch its breath, "and I will personally ensure you spend the next twenty years in a maximum-security cell in Florence, Colorado. Get him out of my sight."
