Chapter 8 - Rebuilding the House

Six months later.
The dark, oppressive energy that had hung over the Howard estate for years was entirely gone.
The grand staircase where the incident occurred had been completely renovated. The cold white marble had been replaced with warm, dark mahogany, covered by a plush, hand-woven Persian runner rug in deep burgundy and gold.
Bright spring sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, filling the foyer with warmth and life.
Arthur stood near the bottom of the stairs, wearing a tailored charcoal suit. He was fully recovered, his strength back, his presence commanding yet gentle.
Down the hallway, the sound of a baby’s sweet giggles echoed through the mansion.
Elena walked into the foyer carrying their three-month-old daughter, Victoria. The baby wore a tiny pink dress, her dark eyes bright and curious, kicking her little feet as Arthur stepped up to hold her.
"She has your eyes, Elena," Arthur smiled warmly, kissing his daughter’s soft forehead before pulling Elena close against his side.
Mrs. Howard walked out of the kitchen holding a tray of fresh tea and pastries, smiling brightly as she watched her son and daughter-in-law.
"The board meeting went smoothly today, Arthur," Elena noted, leaning her head against his shoulder. "The new logistics contracts with the European ports were signed an hour ago."

"I know," Arthur smiled, looking down at her with deep admiration. "Because my brilliant wife managed the negotiations while holding a newborn."
"Somebody had to keep the company running while you were playing golf with the directors," Elena teased, laughing softly.
