Chapter 5 - The Media Storm

The story hit the internet like a tactical nuke.

BILLIONAIRE'S MISSING WIFE FOUND SCRUBBING FLOORS IN HIS OWN MANSION.

The tabloids, the news networks, and social media exploded. Victoria Sterling’s mugshot—her hair disheveled, her makeup smeared, crying hysterically—was plastered across every screen in the world.

The Sterling family tried to do damage control. Victoria’s father, a prominent senator, went on national television to claim his daughter was suffering from a severe mental breakdown and needed psychiatric help, not a prison cell. He hired PR firms to dig up dirt on Clara, trying to paint her as a gold-digger who drove Victoria to madness.

Julian didn't just get mad. He got even.

He didn't use PR firms. He used the truth. Julian released the audio of Victoria’s unhinged confession from the interrogation room directly to the internet.

The public backlash was biblical. Protestors surrounded the Sterling family home. The senator was forced to resign in disgrace within forty-eight hours. The businesses associated with the Sterlings tanked as boycotts spread like wildfire.

Julian sat in Clara’s private suite at the clinic, holding her hand as they watched the news on a small television.

"She's trying to plead insanity," Clara whispered, her voice still raspy but gaining strength every day.

"She can try," Julian said, kissing her knuckles. "But she was perfectly sane when she planned this. She's going to stand trial, Clara. And she's going to pay."

Clara looked away from the TV and looked into Julian's eyes. For the first time in four years, a tiny, genuine spark of defiance lit up in her gaze.

"I don't want to hide anymore, Julian," she said firmly. "I want to testify."
