Chapter 2: The Billionaire Who Never Shows Emotion

The Billionaire's Wife They Tried to Destroy
Chapter 2: The Billionaire Who Never Shows Emotion
People feared angry billionaires.
They feared the shouting.
The threats.
The limitless wealth that could destroy careers overnight.
But those who truly knew Ethan Blackwell feared something else.
His silence.
Because Ethan never made decisions while angry.
He made them after his anger became purpose.
And purpose was far more dangerous.
Outside Operating Room Seven, time stopped.
The red surgical light above the door remained illuminated.
Doctors and nurses rushed in and out carrying blood bags, surgical instruments, and emergency medication.
No one dared meet Ethan Blackwell's eyes.
He stood motionless in the center of the hallway.
His tuxedo, still immaculate from the charity gala, was stained by a single drop of Khloe's blood.
He never noticed it.
"Mr. Blackwell..."
Dr. Melissa Carter approached carefully.
"We're doing everything possible."
Ethan looked at her.
"How long?"
She understood the question.
"She's been in surgery for twenty-eight minutes."
"And my daughter?"
Dr. Carter hesitated.
"The baby's heartbeat returned briefly..."
A pause.
"But it's unstable."
For a fraction of a second, Ethan closed his eyes.
That was the only sign anyone saw.
The only crack in the wall he had built around himself.
When he opened them again...
The billionaire was back.
Calm.
Precise.
Unshakable.
He turned toward his chief of security.
Marcus Reed had worked for Ethan for twelve years.
Former military intelligence.
A man who had protected presidents, diplomats, and royalty.
He had never seen Ethan like this.
"Report."
Marcus opened his tablet.
"Every hospital exit has been sealed."
"Good."
"Police have been notified."
"Too slow."
Marcus frowned.
"Sir?"
"I don't want a press conference."
"I don't want excuses."
"I want the woman who entered my wife's room."
Marcus nodded.
"We're reviewing surveillance."
Ethan looked toward the hallway camera.
Its indicator light remained dark.
"No."
He said quietly.
"You're reviewing what someone wanted us to see."
Three floors below, inside the hospital security office, panic had already begun.
Technicians replayed footage from dozens of cameras.
Hallways.
Elevators.
Parking garages.
Reception desks.
Every angle.
Except one.
Suite 2307.
The recording ended exactly forty-three seconds before the attack.
Security Director Alan Pierce wiped sweat from his forehead.
"Impossible..."
One technician spoke nervously.
"The recording wasn't deleted."
Pierce looked up.
"What?"
"It never existed."
The room fell silent.
Someone had disabled the camera before the attack even started.
Pierce whispered to himself.
"This was planned."
Meanwhile...
News had already reached the ballroom downstairs.
Guests gathered in whispers.
Phones appeared beneath tables.
Messages spread across social media within minutes.
Something happened to Mrs. Blackwell.
No details.
Only rumors.
Some said she fainted.
Some claimed she had gone into labor.
Others insisted it was an accident.
Only one person knew the truth.
Vanessa Hale sat alone in her limousine two blocks away.
Her hands were shaking.
Not from guilt.
From fear.
Blood.
She hadn't expected so much blood.
She looked down at the steel flashlight lying beside her.
A tiny red stain remained near the handle.
She reached for a tissue.
Stopped.
Then threw the weapon into a black duffel bag.
Her phone rang.
Unknown Number.
She answered immediately.
"It's done."
The voice on the other end remained calm.
"Is she dead?"
Vanessa swallowed.
"I don't know."
Silence.
Then the voice spoke again.
"You were given one instruction."
Vanessa's breathing quickened.
"I hit her."
"I know."
Another pause.
"But did you finish the job?"
Vanessa closed her eyes.
"No."
The caller disconnected.
For the first time that night...
Vanessa realized something terrifying.
She wasn't the one in control.
She never had been.
Back at the hospital...
The operating room doors finally opened.
Forty-nine minutes had passed.
Every person in the hallway stood.
Dr. Carter removed her surgical mask.
Her face was pale.
"Ethan."
He stepped forward.
"Your wife survived."
The hallway released a collective breath.
"But..."
One word.
One terrible word.
"The baby had to be delivered early."
Ethan's heartbeat stopped.
Dr. Carter continued.
"She's alive."
Another pause.
"But she's in critical condition."
Ethan looked through the neonatal intensive care window.
Inside a tiny incubator lay a little girl.
No larger than his forearm.
Connected to tubes.
Machines.
Monitors.
His daughter.
For the first time in years...
His hands trembled.
"What about Khloe?"
Dr. Carter looked away.
"She's unconscious."
"When will she wake up?"
"We don't know."
Hours passed.
The hospital grew quieter.
Reporters gathered outside behind police barriers.
Helicopters circled overhead.
News vans filled the streets.
Inside Room 2307, investigators photographed every inch of the crime scene.
Broken glass.
Bloodstains.
A crushed bouquet of white lilies.
Detective Laura Bennett entered.
One of the city's best homicide investigators.
She studied the room carefully.
"No robbery."
She said.
"No struggle for valuables."
Her eyes settled on the blood near the bedside.
"This wasn't random."
Ethan walked inside.
The room instantly became silent.
Detective Bennett approached.
"I'm sorry for your family."
He nodded once.
"What do you know?"
She appreciated the directness.
"The attacker knew the hospital."
"How?"
"They avoided every public hallway."
"They disabled one specific camera."
"They entered during a shift change."
She looked at him.
"Someone helped them."
Ethan already knew.
Near the broken flowers, something caught his eye.
One white lily remained untouched beneath the chair.
He knelt.
Carefully picked it up.
A faint scent reached him.
Not perfume.
Not flowers.
Disinfectant.
Strange.
He handed it to Marcus.
"Lab."
Marcus examined it.
"There are scratches."
Tiny marks covered the flower stem.
Almost invisible.
Ethan looked closer.
"They're not scratches."
"What are they?"
Marcus asked.
Ethan answered quietly.
"Numbers."
Across the city...
The mysterious caller sat inside a penthouse office overlooking the skyline.
Floor-to-ceiling windows reflected the lights below.
A television displayed live coverage of Blackwell Memorial Hospital.
The caller smiled.
"They're already looking in the wrong direction."
Another person entered the office.
"Vanessa failed."
"I expected that."
"What now?"
The figure walked toward the window.
"Now Ethan becomes exactly who we need him to become."
"And what is that?"
The answer came without hesitation.
"A man too distracted to notice the real enemy."
Just after midnight...
A young nurse knocked on Ethan's temporary waiting room.
She looked terrified.
No older than twenty-four.
Her ID badge read:
Emily Dawson
"I..."
She swallowed.
"I think I saw something."
Marcus immediately stepped between them.
"What exactly?"
Emily looked around to make sure nobody else was listening.
"When the attack happened..."
She reached into her uniform pocket.
"I picked this up before security arrived."
She handed Ethan a tiny memory card.
No bigger than a fingernail.
"I found it under the bed."
Ethan stared at it.
"What is it?"
Emily whispered.
"The hallway camera was turned off..."
"...but the baby-monitor camera inside the suite wasn't."
Silence filled the room.
Emily continued.
"It records directly onto this backup card."
Marcus's eyes widened.
"If that's true..."
Ethan finished the sentence.
"We have the attack."
Emily nodded.
"But..."
She looked down.
"When I reported it to my supervisor..."
"...she told me to forget I ever found it."
The room became deathly still.
Ethan looked at Marcus.
"Find out who her supervisor is."
Marcus nodded.
"And protect Nurse Dawson."
Emily looked confused.
"Protect me?"
Ethan slipped the memory card into his pocket.
His voice remained calm.
Cold.
Absolute.
"If someone inside this hospital wanted that recording erased..."
"They now know you're the reason it still exists."
Emily's face lost all color.
Outside the room...
A shadow disappeared around the corner.
Someone had been listening.
And somewhere else in the hospital...
A phone vibrated.
One message appeared on the screen.
The recording survived.
May you like
Eliminate the nurse.
