Chapter 5 - The Grand Premiere

We stepped into the dimly lit, luxurious basement lounge, the soft ambient lighting creating a theatrical atmosphere.

The heavy steel door of the wine cellar was situated directly across from the plush leather seating area.

"Why is the cellar door completely locked up?" Thomas asked, squinting slightly in the dim light.

"Is the surprise inside the vault?" Eleanor asked eagerly, stepping closer to the heavy steel door.

Suddenly, a loud, muffled thud echoed violently from the other side of the thick metal.

Eleanor jumped back, clutching her champagne flute to her chest in sudden alarm.

"Goodness, Clara, did he lock himself in there?" she asked, her brow furrowing in genuine confusion.

"Something like that," I replied calmly, walking over to the coffee table and picking up the television remote.

"Before we open the door, I thought I should give you all a little context."

"I actually prepared a special video presentation for this exact moment."

I pointed the remote at the massive eighty-five-inch screen mounted on the wall.

"Happy tenth anniversary, Marcus," I whispered softly, pressing the play button.

The massive screen instantly flickered to life, bathing the entire dark lounge in a bright, unforgiving glow.

The high-definition security camera feed from inside the wine cellar filled the screen.

There was Marcus, my handsome, charismatic husband, pacing back and forth furiously like a trapped, desperate animal.

His expensive dress shirt was completely unbuttoned, his tie discarded on the brick floor.

And huddled directly behind him, crying hysterically into her hands, was Chloe.

She was wearing one of my expensive silk robes, desperately trying to cover her half-naked body.

The audio feed from the camera clicked on, broadcasting their panicked voices directly into the lounge's surround sound system.

"She knows, Chloe, I'm telling you, Clara knows!" Marcus was screaming on the screen, kicking the heavy wooden tasting table in absolute frustration.

"You promised me we wouldn't get caught!" Chloe sobbed loudly, burying her face in her knees.

"You said she was too stupid and too busy working to ever notice us down here!"

The silence that fell over the basement lounge was so absolute, so profoundly heavy, that you could hear a pin drop.

Greg and Thomas stood completely frozen, their jaws literally hanging open in sheer disbelief.

David lowered his glass of scotch, his eyes wide and terrified as he stared at the massive screen.

Eleanor’s face drained of all color, transforming into a sickly, chalky white mask of sheer horror.

"Clara..." Eleanor whispered, her voice trembling violently as she slowly turned to look at me.

"What... what is this?"

I took a slow, elegant sip of my wine and offered her a chilling, predatory smile.

May you like

"This, Eleanor, is my anniversary present."

"I am giving myself the gift of the absolute truth."
